Summer in Messinia

Spending the summer in our area of northern Messinia in Greece, feels like stepping into a timeless sanctuary where nature, history, and tradition converge in perfect harmony. The landscape is dominated by olive groves, their silver-green leaves shimmering in the sunlight, casting a serene and almost mystical glow over the terrain. It is no wonder that since ancient times the best olive oil came from here and was exported to many other places around the Mediterranean.  The seafood, caught daily from the nearby waters, is grilled to perfection, and every bite tells a story of the sea. In Messinia food is not just about nourishment but about community and connection, as meals are shared with friends and family, accompanied by lively conversation and laughter.

Proximity to ancient Olympia, ancient Messini and other important sites adds a profound historical dimension to the experience of being here. A short drive takes you to this cradle of the Olympic Games, where the ruins speak volumes of the ancient world’s glory. Walking among the remnants of training grounds, stadiums, baths, temples and entertainment venues, you can almost hear the echoes of athletes and their fans from centuries past, their spirit palpable. This connection to history enhances the sense of timelessness that pervades this region.
